Blog: Book Review: Black Rifle II
by: Sam Lichtman
“Common knowledge” can be a tricky thing for people who specialize in facts. As a military history writer, it is incumbent on me to ensure the veracity of any claims I make, no matter how seemingly obvious. The problem is, some of the factoids we all take for granted have been repeated over and over again so many times that there’s no good way to establish where they came from and whether they’re even true. In historical research, we consider the highest form of proof to be a primary source—a personal account from someone who witnessed the event in question firsthand. When it comes to the history of the ubiquitous AR platform, few sources rise to the level of completeness and accuracy as 2004’s Black Rifle II: The M16 Into the 21st Century by Christopher R. Bartocci.
As its unassuming name suggests, Black Rifle II was originally billed as a follow-on to The Black Rifle, a 1987 volume on the development and service history of the AR-15/M16 family of weapons. At that time, the iron-sighted M16A2 was one of the most modern combat rifles the world over, but the next decade and a half would produce a slew of developments to the platform that would render the book hopelessly outdated—the M4 carbine didn’t yet exist, nor did the quad-rail handguards we now regard as antiques. World-renowned small arms expert Christopher R. Bartocci stepped in to create a successor volume detailing the more recent history of the AR-15 and AR-10, picking up where the original left off.
Gun Owners Radio: Fixing the People & Policies That Create Mass Shooters with Andrew Pollack
Andrew Pollack talks about the people and the policies that failed his daughter, Meadow, and continue to fail victims of mass murderers like Uvalde and Michigan State University. While Andrew has made impressive progress in securing schools and keeping kids safer, there is still a tremendous amount of work to do. Andrew wrote his book as a guide to help parents recognize these dangerous policies so they can take effective action in keeping kids safe. Do you love firearms and sharing your knowledge with other ladies? Have you wanted to volunteer more but are not sure where to go? NotMeCA is currently looking for additional ladies to volunteer their time and continue helping other women who come to us looking for help with their firearms journey.
Join NotMeCA Program Director Desi Bergman and learn what the role of an Ambassador consists of and how you can help. Hear from current Ambassadors and why they volunteer their time for NotMeCA.
The #NotMeIE program is a mentor/mentee referral service run by women for women to help them:
Obtain firearms training
Get assistance in choosing and purchasing a firearm
Obtain a CCW
How does the program work?
A potential client can fill out the application for service on our website. Once received, the project manager reviews the application and assigns the client to an Ambassador. An Ambassador then contacts the client to begin the process of walking them through whatever their firearm needs are. After the client has been successfully helped, their case is closed, and the Ambassador is given a new client to work with. Some of our Ambassadors are also NRA certified trainers. They are very knowledgeable in all aspects of firearms training and purchasing. IEGO also offers an online CCW seminar once a month. Check the IEGO website for upcoming dates. If you are an experienced gun owner and are interested in becoming an Ambassador for the #NotMeIE program please reach out to Karla at karla@iegunowners.org
