Voter Guide Candidate Spotlight: Jesse Armendarez
Jesse Armendarez was born and raised in San Bernardino County. A strong believer is hard work, Jesse got his first job pressure washing trucks for a local logistics company at 16 years old. He was eventually able to take advantage of an apprenticeship program to become a licensed mechanic. After graduating from the first class at A.B. Miller, he started his own small business in Fontana. Since then, he has earned national and regional recognition, he was named one of the “Top 250” Hispanic Realtors in the United States by the National Association of Hispanic Realtors and is a Board Member for the Inland Valley Association of Realtors.
After starting his family with his wife Delene, Jesse decided to get involved with his community. He served as President and on the Board of Directors for the Fontana Rotary Club, and is a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. He is also a member of the Fontana Chamber of Commerce and the Water of Life Church. Jesse also served as a Director for the Chaffey College Foundation, helping to raise money so disadvantaged youths could afford to earn their degree. The Jesse and Delene Armendarez Endowment at Chaffey College is fully funded and has helped local students attend college. Wanting to get involved in local government, Jesse earned an appointment to the Fontana Planning Commission where he helped shape the development of one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the Inland Empire.
When local politicians were planning to cut vital after school programs, Jesse decided to help recall them and run for the Fontana Unified School District Board of Trustees. From there, he ran for the Fontana City Council, where he served for four years, including two years as the Mayor Pro Tem. On the council, Jesse also served as Chair of the Inland Empire Utilities Agency Policy Committee where he represented Fontana on policy issues about sewer, wastewater and recycling programs and was also the Vice Chair of the Housing Authority and Industrial Development Authority for the city. Jesse earned a reputation of helping attract businesses and jobs to the city and working to strengthen public safety in his community. He is now running for County Supervisor to bring his record of results to the Board of Supervisors and improve the quality of life in San Bernardino County.
Members Corner -The Importance of a Quality Holster
By: George Mainwaring – Advisory Board Member
With so many holsters out there it’s easy to get confused. But this is not an area to cut corners. We’ve all heard stories of people shooting themselves while drawing. None of us want to be that person.
When choosing a holster it’s always a good idea to go with a Kydex molded or a quality grade leather molded holster. One that covers the trigger and trigger guard completely. Something that will not allow the trigger to be manipulated while in the holster. There are two types of holster retention, Passive where the holster itself holds the firearm in place, or active requiring another movement to essentially unlock the firearm.
For the most part a passive retention holster of good quality is very adequate for a CCW holder as our firearms are concealed and the threat of disarmament is lower then those on duty or those that open carry. Active retention will also add another step on your draw from concealment, usually a dangerous one if the release is near the trigger/trigger guard area.
Take your time and do your homework when selecting a holster. A good quality holster will make all the difference. One should also look into a good CCW belt as they are designed to hold the extra weight of a firearm and keep the holster/firearm in place. A good belt will also help with your draw as the holster is better kept in place. There are many options on the market but these are two perfect examples of buy once, cry once. Good luck on your selection and happy hunting.

BLOG: Cowboy Guns Are Fun – Everyone (except a certain Hollywood actor) should own one
By: Joe Drammissi
As a gun owner and fan of classic western cinema, I’ve always known that it was my destiny to eventually own some classic firearms of the old west. Living in California my options of coming across the real thing are somewhat limited, however high-quality replicas are a good place to start.
I began my journey with an 1873 Winchester lever gun replica from Uberti. With the octagonal barrel it’s an accurate rendition of the real deal. It includes a lever safety that must be depressed to fire which was probably not part of the original 1873 design but otherwise it’s a convincing replica.

Become a #NotMeIE Ambassador
The #NotMeIE program is a mentor/mentee referral service run by women for women to help them:
Obtain firearms training
Get assistance in choosing and purchasing a firearm
Obtain a CCW
How does the program work? A potential client can fill out the application for service on our website. Once received, the project manager reviews the application and assigns the client to an Ambassador. An Ambassador then contacts the client to begin the process of walking them through whatever their firearm needs are. After the client has been successfully helped, their case is closed, and the Ambassador is given a new client to work with. Some of our Ambassadors are also NRA certified trainers. They are very knowledgeable in all aspects of firearms training and purchasing. IEGO also offers an online CCW seminar once a month. Check the IEGO website for upcoming dates. If you are an experienced gun owner and are interested in becoming an Ambassador for the #NotMeIE program please reach out to Karla at [email protected]
